@greyfox909 : Western Digital's products (especially the hard drves) are fairly sturdy and works like a charm. It also plays many video files in great quality.

I was wondering if any of you guys have heard of the Nixeus Fusion HD? I'm trying to decide between that Western Digital or the Popcorn Hour. I want one that is user friendly and plays most files without much hassle.

@polo151821 The whole thing is just an embedded computer running a custom Linux distro. You can get custom firmware which is just the official firmware with useful stuff added, like drivers for Wifi USB dongles. So if you can live with a dongle sticking out, it's pretty easy to get Wifi support.But then again, Wifi sucks, especially for streaming 1080p video. Maybe better to consider power-line networking?

@gavinnorthants Thanks. I already found some other videos though, and bought one. The thumbnails are indeed useless. The list view is way better, although navigating the folders is sluggish. It's pretty good for the price but I wish WD had cared enough to make the interface more responsive. As an embedded developer myself I can say with confidence that it's all down to lazy (or underpaid) programmers.Meh. At least it plays porn in glorious hi-def. :P

You can set 'normal' file sharing, its just a little trickier, you dont need a firmware update from the box, you need to learn windows ;) |
